Biography
Edwidge Thomas, DrNP, is an assistant professor of clinical nursing at Columbia University School of Nursing and a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. She holds a doctorate in Nursing Practice and a Masters of Science from Columbia University, and a Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science from Rutgers University. Her extensive experience in outpatient and inpatient management of acute and chronic diseases afforded her the opportunity to be a founding member of Columbia Advanced Nurse Practice Associates (CAPNA), an independent nurse practitioner primary care practice in New York City where she is currently the lead clinician. As a founding member of CAPNA, she has contributed to the strategic and tactical plans for the opening of the first independent Nurse Practitioner primary care practice that provides comprehensive, high-quality medical and nursing care to commercially insured clients in the New York metropolitan area.
Prior to joining Columbia University’s School of Nursing, Dr. Thomas served as a primary care provider at Kings County Hospital Center’s Medical, Diabetes, and Ryan White HIV clinics, and also developed and managed a coumadin clinic.
Additionally, Dr. Thomas served on the board of directors of the Columbia Presbyterian Physician Network, an independent physician association. She appeared on “60 Minute,” “Good Day New York,” “Health Week,” on PBS, “The Joan Hamburg Show” on WOR, CNBC, WABC and WB11 health sectors and was a panel member on MTV’s “Adolescent and HIV” special. She has also been featured in the New York Times and Ladies’ Home Journal. Dr. Thomas lives with her husband and three daughters in Westchester New York and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, gourmet food, and running.
